Vision in Age of Ultron

Avengers: Endgame Director Confirms Vision’s Fate

Last year’s Avengers: Infinity War was full of moments that left Marvel fans traumatized, but for many viewers, the single most devastating sequence was the death of Vision. Given that the android had perished at the hands of Thanos, rather than in the Snap, it was always likely that he wouldn't be returning in Avengers: Endgame, but with folks like Loki and Gamora still appearing despite being killed by the Mad Titan, viewes were hopeful that Paul Bettany's hero might show up, too.

Well, as you know if you’ve seen the film, Vision didn’t appear at all, and was one of the only major MCU players who didn’t get a chance to return in some form. Frankly, it was quite surprising, as like we said above, many dead characters were still able to play a part in Endgame thanks to time travel and of course, all those who were dusted were brought back, too.

But does this mean that the android is really gone for good? Sadly, it seems so. Speaking to ComicBook.com recently, co-director Joe Russo was asked about Vision’s fate and simply said: “He’s dead as far as I know.”

Though disappointing, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, at Tony Stark’s funeral, we saw Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch share a moment as they reflected on the loved ones they’d lost, strongly suggesting that both Black Widow and Vision are indeed gone for good.

Then again, we already know that Marvel’s planning to bring us that WandaVision series for Disney Plus, so we’ll definitely be seeing more of Bettany in the role at some point down the road. Though as of now, it’s looking increasingly likely that the show will be a prequel. And frankly, that’s alright.

As much as we’d love to see Vision return in the present timeline, Avengers: Endgame was very much the final chapter for most of the original heroes and it’s now time for the MCU to move on and turn the spotlight towards the next generation, so to speak.
