Goose the cat made her MCU debut in last month’s Captain Marvel, and made such a strong impression with audiences that we can almost guarantee that she’ll be returning to our screens somewhere down the line. As it stands, the extraterrestrial sidekick’s whereabouts for the last two decades remain a mystery, and when Fandango asked Anthony Russo if Goose at least survived the snap from Avengers: Infinity War, the filmmaker chose not to answer:

“That’s certainly something I cannot comment on at this point. I know, I can imagine a lot of people want to know that.”

While it’s quite possible that a canon answer to this question simply hasn’t been decided on yet, it’s also tempting to read into Russo’s response as a sign that this month’s release will show us what happened to the feline. After all, once Carol returns to a post-snap Earth, she may be keen to check up on some of her old friends.

In any case, with Captain Marvel currently nearing the billion-dollar mark at the box office, a sequel is looking pretty inevitable. And if Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige’s recent comments are anything to go by, then Captain Marvel 2 could end up being another period flick that picks up where the first film left off. It’s therefore possible that Carol’s next solo outing will continue Goose’s story, but in the meantime, we’ll keep a lookout for the cat when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
