Avengers Endgame Thor

Avengers: Endgame Almost Featured A Thor Vs. Thor Scene

Prior to Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder was one of the more boring Avengers. Mediocre solo films didn't do much for the character, and he was never particularly focused on in the Avengers movies. But, with a new comedic spin behind him, Thor finally found his feet in Ragnarok and has quickly become arguably the funniest character in the MCU. This was proved in Avengers: Endgame. With so much downbeat sadness in the movie, one of the more consistently amusing elements was the new 'Lebowski' model Thor, now sporting an unkempt beard and dramatic beer gut.

This was proven in Avengers: Endgame. With so much downbeat sadness in the movie, one of the more consistently amusing elements was the new ‘Lebowski’ model Thor, now sporting an unkempt beard and dramatic beer gut.

Clearly relishing these changes to the character, Hemsworth knocked his performance out of the park. We got to see an uncertain, scared and emotionally vulnerable Thor, albeit one that could still kick some serious ass when required. Now, a new interview with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely reveals that we’ve been robbed of a potentially hilarious scene involving two Thors.

Those who’ve seen the movie will know that the God of Thunder and Rocket Raccoon travel back to the events of Thor: The Dark World in an attempt to steal an Infinity Stone from Natalie Portman’s Jane. Thor got a dramatic confrontation with his mother, but it seems he once was planned to have encountered his past self.

Markus explains:

“We may have at one time had Dark World Thor catch sight of Endgame Thor and go, you know, “What the hell happened?” But it got too complex and it distracted from things”

McFeely continues:

“That would have been a third version of Thor in this movie, you know?”

As far as I’m concerned, the ‘Thor’ the merrier. I’d quite happily watch a film solely consisting of Chris Hemsworth as Avengers: Endgame flavor Thor bouncing around the MCU timeline and encountering various past versions of himself. But I guess the movie was long enough as is, and we already had one excellent scene of a character encountering their past self. At least there’s more Thor to come in Phase Four.
