Over the course of this week, a handful of stars from the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel are set to guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, starting last night with appearances from Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd and Chris Hemsworth. While reminiscing about the franchise’s early years, Kimmel said that this could be the last time he sees the Avengers assembled on his show, to which Downey responded:

“Well, the future’s very uncertain.”

Of course, while Marvel Studios has gone out of their way to make the future of the MCU look as uncertain as possible, reports have already given us some idea of what’s next for the franchise. For one thing, we know that Johansson will be staying on as the star of the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie. As for Downey, it’s widely assumed that Endgame will serve as Iron Man’s final outing, prompting many fans to worry that he may not live to see the end of Marvel’s Phase 3.

That being said, even if Tony Stark, Captain America, Thor and the rest of the Phase 1 line-up were to drop out of the saga, there’d still be an excellent chance that Endgame won’t be the last Avengers movie. After all, the series is making more money than ever these days, and Marvel already has a few newcomers lined up to fill some empty slots in the team. Either way, we’ll find who still has a place in Phase 4 of the franchise when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
