The first proper trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joker was released this morning, and has managed to generate a fair amount of positive buzz around the Clown Prince of Crime’s standalone flick. And among the fans looking forward to seeing more from this fresh take on the Batman villain is apparently Gillan, who bridged the Marvel/DC divide with the following tweet:

“OH MY GOD just saw the trailer for Joker and it is quite clearly one of my most anticipated films to see ever!!! THAT IS A BIT OF ME wowowowowow”

While the Guardians of the Galaxy star didn’t get too specific with her endorsement, Joaquin Phoenix’s lead turn seems to be the main reason why a lot of filmgoers are feeling optimistic about Phillips’ effort. So far, the movie has been marketed as a Scorsese-style character study in a Taxi Driver or King of Comedy vein, and Phoenix certainly has the track record to prove he can bring some depth to the film’s titular antihero. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s joined by some noteworthy supporting players, including Robert De Niro and Deadpool 2 star Zazie Beetz.

We’ll find out if Joker is as good as Gillan hopes when the movie hits theaters on October 4th. In the meantime, DC’s Shazam! is due for release on April 5th, before Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
