User WhopperPlopper has posted two images of Robert Downey Jr.: one from the recent trailer, and the other from 2008’s Iron Man, the film that kicked off both Stark’s journey and this whole cinematic universe. For the Iron Man image, the descriptive text points out that the future Avenger is wearing a “Black Tank Top,” has a “Lack of Resources,” and is “Stranded in a cave with a bald dude.” For the Endgame still, the text reads much the same, but with “a cave” replaced by “Space” and “bald dude” replaced by “bald chick.”

The female character in question is Nebula, who isn’t confirmed to be stuck with Tony in his floating can, though a quick glimpse can be seen in the trailer of what appears to be her hand on the shoulder of a person who might be Stark. Either way, that last “bald person” parallel sounds like a stretch, but overall, it wouldn’t come as a great surprise to learn that directors Anthony and Joe Russo had this exact callback in mind for what could well be Iron Man’s final film.

With that in mind, though the internet has presented a couple of theories on who could save Stark from his predicament, perhaps we can’t rule out the character putting together the resources and creating the technology to save himself, just like he did all those years ago. That’s just a little speculation for you there, but we’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
