Avengers: Endgame Trailer May Have Evidence Of Time Travel

Marvel trailers are known to sometimes be deliberately deceptive, with the fake Hulk scene from the Avengers: Infinity War teaser perhaps being the most obvious example. So while the new footage for Avengers: Endgame may appear to neither confirm nor deny the use of time travel in the film, it’s understandable that some fans are suspecting a cunning effort to hide this development in plain sight.

The moment in question comes at the end of the movie’s first preview, as Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff look at a monitor from inside the Avengers facility showing Scott Lang as he arrives up front and asks if he can be buzzed in. Captain America asks Black Widow, “Is this an old message?” possibly because Scott’s disappearance into the Quantum Realm led our heroes to assume that he was among the victims of Thanos’ snap.

Nat responds to Steve’s question by telling him, “It’s the front door,” and while it’s clear that Marvel wants us to take this reply as a ‘no’ to Steve’s question, some fans have pointed out that the monitor has the word “ARCHIVE” in the top-left corner, implying that this could in fact be an old message. From here, the conclusion is drawn that maybe Scott took a trip through one of those Quantum Realm “time vortexes” he was warned about and ended up returning to his own world at some point in the past.

One word among several on a monitor isn’t a lot to base a claim on, and you have to wonder what Black Widow meant by her “front door” comment if she wasn’t implying that the footage was live (presumably Steve remembers what the front of the Avengers facility looks like), but it’s still a nice idea that shows the fans are already looking very closely at the trailer for clues.

We’ll find out if all these time travel predictions have it right when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
