Avengers: Endgame Trailer May Tease A Return For Agent Carter

Keeping with how secretive Marvel has been about the movie all this time, the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame still played its cards close to its chest and didn't exactly blow the lid on the story. Instead, it successfully teased the tone and mood of the movie. However, there were certain moments that have set fans theorizing.

Instead, it successfully teased the tone and mood of the movie. However, there were certain moments that have set fans theorizing.

For example, when Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff are on board a Quinjet preparing to undertake some dangerous mission, Cap looks at his old compass and we linger on the photo of Peggy Carter inside. The trailer was so precise that it feels like everything was there for a reason. As such, there must be a bigger significance to this mini-cameo from Hayley Atwell’s character, right?

Well, first of all, it’s a callback to Captain America: The First Avenger, as Steve was known to have that compass with the photo since the 1940s. On a thematic level, it represents the journey of Cap across these films coming full circle, but does it mean he’s not going to make it out of Endgame alive? There was a very ominous tone to the whole scene, so it definitely feels that way.

Alternatively, a common fan theory about Endgame is that due to some quirk of time travel – the movie’s expected to make use of the Quantum Realm’s temporal abilities – Steve may end up back in the post-War era and decide to remain behind with Peggy. If so, perhaps this moment in the trailer is a little hint at the character’s farewell from the franchise as well as a promise that Atwell will cameo.

The British actress herself has been denying that she’s due to return to the MCU anytime soon and has said that it would take a big change to Peggy’s character to convince her to come back. Then again, Marvel stars know how to lie to protect the studio’s secrets and, perhaps more importantly, altering the timeline in this massive way would surely match Atwell’s requirements for her return.

What do you think about this Avengers: Endgame theory, though? Is Peggy set to cameo? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
