Avengers: Endgame Will Be The Last Marvel Studios Film For A While

Avengers: Endgame is set to serve as the culmination point for not just the first eleven years of the MCU, but also an insane amount of hype and speculation. In fact, once the Avengers: Infinity War sequel arrives in theaters, a lot of filmgoers may feel in need of a breather, and as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld recently observed, that’s exactly what we’ll get.

Marvel’s Phase 3 finale will be followed a couple of months later by the Sony-produced Spider-Man: Far From Home, but after that, Liefeld points out that we’re probably in for an unusually long wait before the next MCU flick comes our way, tweeting:

“Still wrapping my head around the fact that there are no Marvel movies currently filming. So a full year absent Marvel films following Spider Man?”

Indeed, Marvel Studios’ next scheduled release date is reportedly May 1st, 2020, suggesting a wait of almost ten months between MCU features and over a year between Marvel movies produced under Disney.

While we can assume that many fans won’t be too pleased about the MCU’s long period of absence, the break may not be the worst thing after such a busy few years for Marvel Studios releases. Though the filmgoing public has defied predictions of “superhero fatigue” time and time again, the risk remains that Marvel may eventually overdo it, and after all the build-up to Endgame, 2020 might be the right time to take things down a notch for a little while.

While Feige reaffirmed last week that Marvel Studios won’t officially announce its 2020 slate until after this year’s films have all been released, it’s generally expected that next year will see just two MCU flicks reach cinemas – those being, the Black Widow solo movie and The Eternals. But first, Avengers: Endgame is going to bring this current era to a close when it hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
