Avengers: Endgame Writer Warns Not To Trust Mysterio In Spider-Man: Far From Home

Mysterio Spider-Man: Far From Home

In the recent trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Nick Fury introduces Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, as a man from another version of Earth. But while Avengers: Endgame certainly opened the doors for such alternate dimension developments, the film’s co-writer Stephen McFeely has offered a reminder that Peter’s new friend may not be all he says he is.

The Endgame and Infinity War scribe was speaking to The Hollywood Reporter when the subject of alternate realities came up. When the interviewer suggested that we now know there’s a Marvel multiverse thanks to the Far From Home trailer, McFeely replied, “Do we?” The interviewer then acknowledged that Mysterio is known for his deceptive ways, before the writer reaffirmed that we should stay skeptical:

“That’s the thing, consider your source.”

Seeing how McFeely isn’t directly involved in Far From Home, perhaps the scribe is only speculating as a fan. But whether or not Quentin is actually from another Earth, it’s pretty clear at this point that Endgame laid the foundations for some alternate reality plotlines. And even if the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel doesn’t take advantage of this opportunity, it’s surely only a matter of time before another Marvel Studios project does (the upcoming Loki show springs to mind).

In any case, though Quentin may well be telling the truth about his alternate dimension origins, it feels safe to assume that Jake Gyllenhaal’s character is still hiding a secret or two. In particular, while Mysterio is set to team up with Peter to fight Elementals across Europe, Quentin’s villainous comic book history makes it all but inevitable that the two of them won’t stay friends for long. Either way, all will be revealed when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2nd.
