Avengers: Endgame’s Tessa Thompson Wants A Valkyrie/Captain Marvel Romance

Carol Danvers has only just arrived in the MCU but, like overbearing parents, Marvel fans are already busy setting her up with a fellow hero. First, folks wanted her to get together with Thor, but the more popular ship that's caught the internet alight is pairing Brie Laron's Captain Marvel up with Thor: Ragnarok's Tessa Thompson. Carol Danvers has only just arrived in the MCU but, like overbearing parents, Marvel fans are already busy setting her up with a fellow hero. First, folks wanted her to get together with Thor, but the more popular ship that’s caught the internet alight is pairing Brie Laron’s Captain Marvel up with Thor: Ragnarok‘s Tessa Thompson. The ship was launched when the two actresses shared some artwork on social media of their characters getting very chummy.

Ahead of Avengers: Endgame, Thompson was asked about her thoughts on the popular pairing and reacted with surprise, as the star didn’t even think about the potential romantic connotations of the artwork. However, it seems she’s up for it, even if she’d just be pleased to see Valkyrie and Carol team up in any capacity in the franchise.

“That’s wild!” Thompson said with a laugh. “It didn’t even occur to me, legitimately, that it was necessarily a romantic thing. I don’t even know what happens in the canon in terms of those characters or if they ever intersect, but I just love the idea of more women Marvel characters getting to intersect. I just think it’s so cool and it’s time and why not? There’re so many compelling female characters inside of the MCU.”

In terms of Marvel comics, Valkyrie and Captain Marvel don’t have too much history, but who knows what could happen with the MCU characters? Thompson’s previously revealed that her hero is bisexual, as made explicit in a deleted scene from Ragnarok. Carol’s orientation has yet to be established on the big screen, but fans are hoping she’s part of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s push towards a more diverse roster.

Of course, Thompson has long been an advocate for an all-female Avengers movie, famously cornering Feige about the possibility with many fellow Marvel actresses on the set of Endgame. Now that Captain Marvel has broken the studio’s run of male-dominated films, hopefully some sort of A-Force-like team-up is on the horizon.

Who knows, though? Captain Marvel and Valkyrie may even come face to face – and hit it off? – in Avengers: Endgame, arriving in cinemas on April 26th. Time will tell, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
