New Connection Between Avengers: Infinity War And Age Of Ultron Discovered

Over the 10 years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe came into being, the importance of forward planning has been evident since day 1. From post-credit scenes that interlink characters and movies, to artefacts pointing towards moments still to come (think the fake Infinity Gauntlet in Thor: Ragnarok). Where this still continues to pay off though is in the little details that Marvel fans keep uncovering following the release of Avengers: Infinity War.

On that note, one Reddit user in particular has hit the nail on the head and come out with something so obvious, that it’s a surprise we haven’t heard it elsewhere. It has to do with a connection between the recent event movie and Age of Ultron, and you can check out the post in full below:

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor has a vision in the pool of sight alerting him to the existence of the Infinity Stones and their destructive capability.

In the Scene where Vision awakens, Thor says: I’ve had a vision, a whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life and at its centre, is that *points to the Mind Stone*

In Avengers: Infinity War, the Mind Stone is the 6th Infinity Stone to be collected. Thanos emerges into Wakanda through a wormhole created by the space stone, collects the Mind Stone and places it in the Centre of the Infinity Gauntlet.

The Russo Brothers did their research and really grasped for every possible line of dialogue to make any and all connections they could to past movies, even down to the placement of the stones within the gauntlet itself, a detail that would otherwise be pointless to spend time getting right.

It’s not explicitly stated in the movie, but of course the Mind Stone, located in Vision’s melon, is the most important of the Infinity Stones. Although he’s given the moniker of the Mad Titan, Thanos doesn’t actually want to destroy everything. His plan is to save existence by indiscriminately wiping out half of the universe. He doesn’t care which half, and his plan has nothing to do with gender, race, species or origin; it’s simply about overpopulation.

As another Reddit user points out in the comments section, Avengers: Age Of Ultron exposed the Mind Stone as essentially being a supercomputer with the ability to fairly select those who would fall to the Snap, whereas without it Thanos would simply go HAM on the whole universe. And who wants that?

It’s interesting to think that instead of being a full stop, Avengers: Infinity War is more of a Da Capo al Coda. That is, once you get to the end, it’s rewarding to go back to the start of the series and see how it all fits together. Speaking of which, it’ll certainly be exciting to find out what comes from Ant-Man and the Wasp next month, which has been confirmed to be directly connected to Avengers 4.
