Per Collider, comic book scribe Jim Starlin (“Infinity Gauntlet”) has revealed that the Russo Brothers initially shot “almost 30 minutes of completed footage” for Avengers: Infinity War, all of which revolved around Thanos and his tragic backstory.

Sadly, the footage never made the theatrical cut, but it will see the light of day… thanks to the film’s forthcoming Blu-ray release. While appearing at Las Vegas Comic Con this past weekend, Starlin spoke to Collider about the MCU juggernaut, along with those online whispers that another one of his characters will be making his/her way into Avengers 4.

Remember, Jim Starlin is the brains behind Thanos, so we imagine he knows a thing or two about Infinity War‘s handling of the über-villain and, perhaps most exciting of all, that leftover material that will soon be making its way onto home video. According to him, it won’t just be included as deleted scenes, either. Rather, it’ll be incorporated back into the film and presented as an Extended Cut either on the initial Blu-ray release or perhaps a special edition that’ll drop before Avengers 4 hits.

An entire half-hour dedicated to the Mad Titan’s tragic origins? Where do we sign up? Of course, including this extended backstory in the theatrical cut would’ve pushed Infinity War‘s runtime past the three-hour mark, so perhaps it’s for the best that the Russo Brothers decided to shelve said footage until the inevitable home video release, which typically includes all of that juicy bonus content for the diehards out there (us included!).

Marvel Studios is yet to disclose its official launch plans for the Avengers: Infinity War Blu-ray, but we’ll update you if and when that situation changes.
