Sure, you have Warner’s imminent Justice League and the mooted Godzilla Vs. Kong, but in the realm of Hollywood’s shared universes, Infinity War stands head and burly shoulders above the rest because it’s about to execute on a vision that began almost ten years ago with the release of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man. Toss in a post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, now an MCU mainstay, and the rest is history.

Indeed, when counting the yet-to-be-released Thor: Ragnarok and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War will be the 19th instalment in Marvel’s grand universe, with everyone involved deeming IW to be a superhero movie unlike any other. And even from the outside looking in, few would contest such a tantalizing claim.

Weaving all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together was undoubtedly one of the most challenging elements of Infinity War, and we understand both Ragnarok and Black Panther will include some subtle nods toward Joe and Anthony Russo’s super-sized tentpole. But now, in a new interview with Digital Spy, Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, has spoken more about the “huge, amazing” event movie to come.

Cumberbatch, who first donned the Cloak of Levitation late last year, has been spotted numerous times on the Infinity War set – ditto for its untitled sequel, Avengers 4 – and here, the British thesp draws attention to the ten years’ worth of groundwork that helped make Marvel’s 2018 blockbuster a reality.

It’s ten years coming. It’s just a huge, huge, huge amount of work, huge amount of storylines and it’s all sort of pointing to this confrontation. It’s amazing to part of it even though I’m late to the party, it’s very cool one to be part of it.

Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel will enjoy a back-to-back release on May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019, respectively. Also, if online speculation is anything to go by, the first official trailer for the former will be online next week.
