San Diego Comic-Con has now come and gone for another year, but fans are still reeling from what was an overwhelming weekend of content, be it in the form of new trailers, photos, posters, etc. for most of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming releases. Undoubtedly, one of the titles to draw the most attention – and not surprisingly – was Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, the superhero film to end all superhero films.
From what we understand, nearly every character still breathing in the MCU will be returning for the pic, including Vision (Paul Bettany) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), who are expected to have fairly large roles in the blockbuster. In fact, we’ve already had set photos (see the gallery below) showing the two getting very close indeed, with a few of the shots suggesting that Vision will have his Infinity Stone removed, causing him to assume a more human form.
After all, the source of his powers is that Mind Stone lodged in his forehead, which also happens to be the very thing that the Mad Titan needs to complete his Infinity Gauntlet.
Now, a romance between these two has been brewing since Age of Ultron, so there’s no big shock there, but Vision shedding his android skin is definitely a surprise. Does this mean Bettany will be playing the character as a human moving forward? It’s certainly possible, but if there’s one thing we can definitely count on, it’s that Infinity War will be giving both characters their most exciting arc yet.
Appearing in Chicago for a Wizard World Comic Con Q&A with fans recently, Bettany briefly commented on what’s in store for the heroes in Avengers 3, and here’s what he shared:
I think, for both Lizzie and I, it’s the most exciting plotline of each of us so far.
From everything we’ve heard so far, it’s no surprise that Vision and Scarlet Witch will be getting their biggest and most exciting roles to date here. Both characters have become quite interesting over their handful of appearances in the franchise and given that there’s still so much about them that has yet to be explored, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what the Russo brothers do with the duo in the film.
Packed to the rafters with scene-stealing chemistry and “intense surprises,” Avengers: Infinity War is now less than a year away and will launch into theaters on May 4th, 2018. The fourth, so-far untitled Avengers film will then release in May of 2019, by which point viewers will be acquainted with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and her ’90s-set origin story. March 8th, 2019 is the date for your diaries for that one.
