Avengers: Infinity War Eyeing Gigantic $498 Million Worldwide Opening

The latest tracking for Avengers: Infinity War expects the decade-long culmination to haul in nearly $498 million worldwide during its opening weekend.

Earlier today, we relayed a report regarding Avengers: Infinity War and the subsequent box office obliteration that will undoubtedly follow the movie’s opening. Fandango announced late last week that the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed superhero film had already sold out over 1,000 screenings, forcing theatre owners to be perpetually adjusting their schedules to include additional showtimes.

Having grossed nearly $15 billion worldwide via eighteen motion pictures thus far, the MCU is expecting big things from the Mad Titan’s arrival, and according to Deadline, the triple-zero plateau is just the tip of the iceberg. And that’s because the outlet is now reporting that Avengers: Infinity War is headed for a $498 million opening worldwide.

Tracking currently pegs it to $216 million-$235 million domestically. Even if the figure lands somewhere in the middle of that estimation, it would be good enough to nab the film the second-biggest domestic launch ever, narrowly beating Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220M).

As for overseas, industry sources are gauging Infinity War’s outset to be between $256 million-$263 million. Meaning that combined with stateside totals, Anthony and Joe Russo’s event movie will wind up in the ballpark of $472 million-$498 million, making it one of the top five biggest openings of all-time. Not to mention that at this point, a debut of $500 million and upwards isn’t out of the question, either.

Jon Favreau’s Iron Man was the genesis that set in motion a decade-long effort to unite all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen. And later this week, the culmination of Marvel’s cinematic universe, Avengers: Infinity War, will begin its tyrannical reign over the box office when it opens on April 27th.
