Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Teases The MCU’s Impending Finale

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has touched on Avengers: Infinity War and how it's part of an unconventional finale to the current MCU.

Though it may err on the side of hyperbole, the Marvel Cinematic Universe would not be around today if not for Kevin Feige — not in its current state, at least.

The producing powerhouse has been a driving force of Hollywood’s greatest superhero franchise from the very beginning – 2008, for the record – and thanks to the one-two punch of Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel, Feige is about to oversee a cinematic finale the likes of which we’ve never seen.

And make no mistake, this is a finale. Because while Disney and Marvel are already preparing for life after Thanos (see: Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), the back-to-back Avengers sequels will effectively close the book on this current iteration of the MCU. At least, that’s what Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly, while also teasing a somewhat unconventional finale for superhero movies.

The notion of an ending, the notion of a finale, became very intriguing to us, in large part because you don’t see it that often in this particular genre.

Such a climatic battle means the stakes are higher now than they’ve ever been before, and sure enough, Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., conceded that even after 10 years of Marvel movies, Iron Man isn’t safe. Because no one is safe.

We’re going to pull out the stops, and stop exploring conventions, and look to do stuff where we go, ‘Oh, but if we do that, that’s very, very definitive.’ Well, great, let’s get definitive for a change! We’re like a family now. Ten years later, we’re hanging out and having lunch, and kind of wondering when the draft is going to come in. Which one of us bites it and when?

Avengers: Infinity War is pegged to arrive on April 27th, and when it does, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same again.
