It seems the Man Without Fear has been hiding in plain sight – no pun intended.
Not for the first time, Marvel has incorporated the New York Bulletin into its marketing campaign, only on this occasion, it’s plastered onto the side of a LEGO set, of all things. First spotted by SuperBroMovies, this set, in particular, is themed after Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo’s super-sized ensemble movie that’s due to arrive on May 4th.
Indeed, with 76 characters in tow, Infinity War is a multi-faceted beast, with enough moving parts and costumed crusaders to sink a ship. It’s a credit to Marvel, then, that comic book fans have become truly invested in all elements of the MCU – including Netflix’s roster of street-level heroes.
Three of that foursome – namely Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage – are expected to return in 2018, but thanks to SuperBroMovies (via Reddit), we know that Infinity War‘s official LEGO set includes a cute Easter egg dedicated to the Man Without Fear. As you’ll see below, the “Battle in the Sanctum Sanctorum” collection features a copy of the New York Bulletin, replete with a miniature, LEGO version of Matt Murdock’s vigilante tucked away under the headline, “Crime Floods the Streets.”
It’s one of six Infinity War LEGO sets currently in the works, though there’s no mention of a firm release date. As we alluded to before, this collection largely centers on the Sanctum Sanctorum, a place of worship and sorcery for Stephen Strange. However, trouble is afoot, as Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw – two lieutenants of the Black Order – are about to wage war against the Avengers.
For more, here’s the official description:
The Battle in the Sanctum Sanctorum
Minifigures include: Cull Obsidian, Ebony Maw, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Spider-Man
Emergency! Kull Obsidian and Ebony Mo are attacking the Holy of Holies of Dr. Strange!
Together with the Spiderman, jump off them from the roof. Unite with the Iron Man and Dr. Strange and use their powers to repel super villains. If Ebony Mo is able to penetrate the bedroom of Peter Parker, lead him from there through the secret hatch.
You must stop the evil invaders before they blow up the wall of the Holy of Holies Dr. Strange and get the stone of infinity of time. After defeating your enemies, order pizza and celebrate it with Peter Parker!
Attempting to wean potential story clues from a tie-in LEGO set is always a dangerous game. If history has taught us anything, it’s that major toy manufacturers typically dream up their own scenarios when launching merchandise, so we wouldn’t take this report from SuperBroMovies as gospel.
Even still, it’s fun to speculate about a potential crossover. Then again, Avengers: Infinity War is already a crowded affair, so perhaps it’s best if Joe and Anthony Russo keep the focus on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for the time being? We’ll leave that one to you.
