Not for the first time, Liv Tyler has been tipped for a role in Avengers: Infinity War.

As any Marvel fan will tell you, the actress originally played the part of Betty Ross, gamma scientist and Bruce Banner’s ex-girlfriend, in The Incredible Hulk, which became the second instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Iron Man.

That means Louis Leterrier’s oft-forgotten spinoff is still considered canon among Marvel creators, so the return of Betty Ross isn’t exactly off the table. And that’s exactly what The Scottish Daily (via ComicBook.com) predicts in its breakdown of Infinity War‘s colossal production. Mind you, just because Liv Tyler’s name is mentioned doesn’t necessarily mean that her MCU character is a shoo-in for the forthcoming blockbuster, so until we hear something official from Marvel, take this one with a pinch of salt.

Yes, Infinity War is said to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen, drafting in practically every character from the MCU archives – including Captain Marvel, perhaps? – but bringing Betty Ross back to the fold would surely complicate an already complex timeline.

Remember, Liv Tyler first appeared in the MCU at a time when Edward Norton was the Incredible Hulk – Norton was later swapped out for Mark Ruffalo, similar to how Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard as Rhodes/War Machine – where she played the daughter of crooked army chief, Thaddeus Ross. That’s an antagonist who would later go on to become Abomination, though it seems the days of Marvel leasing characters from Universal have long since passed.

It’s the same reason why a Hulk spinoff hasn’t come to fruition, though fans can still look forward to that three-film arc continuing in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th.
