Thanos Vs. Nebula? Karen Gillan Hopes Infinity War Addresses Her Character’s “Daddy Issues”

Will Avengers: Infinity War and its unnamed sequel bring closure for Nebula and her daddy issues? Karen Gillan certainly hopes so.

Nebula, adopted daughter of the Mad Titan, clearly has some unresolved daddy issues. And it seems Karen Gillan wants to address Thanos head-on – be it through Infinity War or the untitled Avengers 4.

Currently in the midst of Jumanji‘s press tour, Cinema Blend caught up with Gillan to discuss Welcome to the Jungle and the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a franchise that continues next year through the release of Black Panther, at which point fans will begin turning their attention toward Avengers: Infinity War – if they haven’t already.

But on a more personal level, Gillan hopes that Nebula gets the chance to confront her inner demons, and possibly bring an end to Marvel’s Mad Titan in the process.

I hope that she can somehow face her daddy issues head-on, and make some progress with those. That’s what I’m hoping for. I actually don’t know what happens in the end.

That’s all hearsay for now, of course, as Marvel is yet to release any firm story details for Infinity War – ditto for the super-secret Avengers 4. Still, it’s worth pointing out that Zoe Saldana, who plays the on-screen step-sister to Gillan, lobbied for Nebula to deliver the fatal blow earlier this year.

I think that me [Gamora], as his golden child, I sort of gave up. I’m done. I’m resolved. I wouldn’t want anybody else to put him in the place than the first person the struck and he hurt the most, which is his kids. So, I would want Nebula to do it.

Last we checked in on Nebula at the tail-end of Guardians 2, she planned to buy a warship “with every conceivable instrument of death” as part of her last-ditch attempt to bring Thanos down. Whether that plan takes into effect is another question entirely, but rest assured, Avengers: Infinity War will deliver some of the answers fans so crave on May 4th, 2018.
