By the time Avengers: Infinity War kicks off, the heroes will be in very different places from where they started off. This new promo for the event movie of the year reminds us just how far the Avengers, the Guardians and all their allies have come by blasting through the events of the MCU in just over 30 seconds. It all started with an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, the narration reminds us, before quickly recapping some major moments from the franchise.

Mostly, the promo takes us right back to the beginning to show us when our heroes were either introduced or first proved how remarkable they really were. For instance, Tony Stark working on the original Iron Man armor in his 2008 debut, Steve Rogers undergoing the super soldier process in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peter Quill’s opening scene in Guardians of the Galaxy and so on and so forth.

The promo then fast-forwards to now and shows us a snippet of what each of these heroes are up to in Infinity War – and it doesn’t look too promising. A bedraggled Captain America is knee-deep in battle, Tony looks out of his depth when Thanos arrives in New York and one curious clip shows Star-Lord being attacked by Iron Man (maybe it’s a rogue suit?). Just how are the assembled Avengers going to live up to the idea that started it all?

We’ve been told already that the heroes will be totally unprepared for Thanos when he attacks Earth to claim the rest of the precious Infinity Stones he’s yet to get his purple hands on. Though we do know that Stark develops a plan to use the Stones against the villain. Let’s just hope he knows what he’s doing.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th.
