Avengers: Infinity War’s Sebastian Stan Hopes To Keep On Playing Bucky Barnes
Avengers: Infinity War marks the beginning of the end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it.
It’s been promised many times before that the event movie and its untitled sequel, Avengers 4 will totally change the franchise. Due to comments from the cast and crew, it looks like this means many of the old guard of the MCU will kick the bucket. But one star who hopes to stick around for a while yet is actor Sebastian Stan.
He’s been part of the franchise since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and has been on quite the journey so far as Sergeant Bucky Barnes. He started out as Steve Rogers’ best pal in the 1940s, but was then reborn as the brainwashed assassin the Winter Soldier in the 21st century. Last we saw, Bucky had been cured of HYDRA’s mental conditioning and was just starting to find himself again. But will Infinity War spell the end for him?
Hey U Guys caught up with Stan at a sneak peak screening of the movie in London and asked him if he knew how much his character would grow over the years when he first signed up to play him. Stan’s reply was interesting, as he ended up talking about how he’s keeping his fingers crossed that things continue, saying:
“I know we had conversations about what potentially might happen, where he would go, and where he wouldn’t go. But, it’s just so hard to predict, you know? Because it’s just, over time, it depends on the fans. It depends on all kinds of things. But it’s been a blessing to see it come this far. And like I said, we knew we could potentially do a Winter Soldier movie, or any of those things. And so far it’s been great, so knock on wood, you know? It keeps going.”
Stan’s comments become more intriguing when you remember what Chris Evans said about his own future with the MCU. The Captain America star heavily suggested that Avengers 4 would be it for his tenure, which would leave the mantle of the iconic hero open for someone else to pick up. Perhaps his oldest friend? Stan himself has even teased the possibility of him becoming the next Cap before. “It would be a very different Captain America,” he said of what his interpretation would be like.
We’ll soon know what the future holds for Bucky’s MCU journey as Avengers: Infinity War is just a few weeks away now. April 27th is the date for your diaries.
