Did Marvel Ever Attempt To Broker A Deal For Silver Surfer? Kevin Feige Weighs In

CinemaBlend caught up with Marvel chief Kevin Feige to discuss Avengers: Infinity War and those rumors concerning Silver Surfer.

Of all the many, many characters featured in Avengers: Infinity War, there are one or two omissions that left viewers scratching their heads in disbelief.

Hawkeye is the big one, of course, given Clint Barton was originally part of the ensemble that fought off the Chitauri (and Ultron!) throughout Avengers 1 and 2. But after the calamitous events of Captain America: Civil War, Jeremy Renner’s sharpshooter fell off the radar, where he was supposedly placed on house arrest – ditto for Scott Lang, who will be back on our screens this summer thanks to the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp.

But there’s another character who was once tipped to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. His name? Norrin Radd (AKA Silver Surfer), the cosmic entity who may well be bound for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pending the Disney-Fox merger. However that may be, prior to Infinity War‘s launch, speculation was rife that Kevin Feige and Co. had struck a deal so that the Silver Surfer could appear in the 2018 event movie – speculation that Feige categorically denied during a recent chat with Cinema Blend.

When asked straight-up if he had met with Fox executives over the possibility of a potential Norrin Radd cameo – similar to how Sony and Marvel brokered a deal so that Spider-Man could swing into the aforementioned Civil War – Kevin Feige told Cinema Blend that no such meeting took place, which tells us that it’ll be at least another few years before a character from the Fantastic Four franchise crosses over into the MCU.

The same can also be said about Deadpool and the X-Men, but with a cinematic roadmap in place until at least 2025, comic book movie fans needn’t worry about a lull in production now that Avengers: Infinity War has officially arrived.
