Out of all the major announcements made by Marvel president Kevin Feige today, the news of the third Avengers instalment was undoubtedly the most exciting – as a teaser preview for the movie was also unveiled.

In the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, Earth’s mightiest heroes will face their biggest foe Thanos, who has been in the background of every major event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Infinity War storyline and Thanos’ involvement have been threaded through the entire MCU to date – with one of the Infinity Gems playing an important part in Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The comic book version of the story ran for six issues in 1992 as a direct sequel to the Infinity Gauntlet series, and has long been heralded as a fan favourite. The sheer number of crossovers in that initial run includes many of the Avengers stand-alone comics, so we can likely expect a true cinematic epic when the films arrive in theatres.

Luckily, for those of us who weren’t present to see the teaser trailer, one fan captured the whole thing on video during the event, and you can check it out below:

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be released on May 4th, 2018, with Part 2 arriving on May 3rd, 2019. Check out the full press release from Marvel below, along with the leaked clip:

The Avengers have already triumphed over Loki, and next summer they’ll face Ultron…but nothing could prepare them for the menace of Thanos.

How big of a threat does Thanos pose, you ask? Big enough to span two epic films, beginning with Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” on May 4, 2018, and concluding in Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” on May 3, 2019 for one massive cinematic event.

“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe,” recalled Feige. “‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1′ is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before.”

Hold onto your hats, True Believers, because Phase 3 of the Cinematic Universe is going to be one wild ride! Stay tuned to Marvel.com for the latest on the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it develops!
