Shock, horror, gut-wrenching sadness.
Such was the devastating effect of Avengers: Infinity War‘s finale that almost every single Marvel movie fan is still coming to terms with Thanos’ snap of doom, and what it means for Avengers 4.
Spoilers: By the time Infinity War‘s eerily silent credits begin to roll, Thanos has already won, which leaves Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with a mountain to climb if they’re to set things straight in 2019. It’s a credit to Marvel’s creative team, then – the sound engineers, the SFX artists, the cinematographers – that the consequences of the Mad Titan’s actions were felt immediately, as we watched some of our favorite heroes disappear from view.
It’s a process that seasoned producer Trinh Tran detailed during a recent interview with ComicBook.com, where she stated:
We were meticulous about each of the characters and spent a lot of time discussing how each character’s death would affect future films. The snap’ was always part of our story discussions from go. We all agreed Thanos needed that iconic moment, and definitely used the comics as a reference point. We had Brolin, in mocap, snap his finger on the day. Many other filmmaking aspects went into creating the iconic moment. The build-up to the snap was just as important as the snap itself.
As for how the Avengers: Infinity War cast reacted to their own individual fates, it seems many of the film’s main stars were just as shocked and horrified as you and I.
Tran continued:
The reaction of our talent when they found out they would be blipped on the morning of shooting the actual scene. We made a decision early on in production that we were going to be diligent about the spoilers of the film, so there were no copies given out of any of the big moments in the film just in case something happens to it. It was decided that we’d reveal, in person, to the talent that morning that some of them would not survive at the end of the film, so it was a little nerve-wracking to get the responses. Sad, surprised, etc.
Currently available to pick up on digital, Avengers: Infinity War is expected to grace Blu-ray and DVD on August 14th – five days and counting, folks.
