Avengers: Infinity War

Does The Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Hint That [SPOILERS] Will Die?

Much has been said about how long-running MCU characters are at risk in Avengers: Infinity War - and it looks like the recent second trailer for the event movie might have revealed who may be meeting their maker. We could be barking up the wrong tree with this one, but if a major character death is something you'd like to experience unspoiled, you might want to look away now.

Much has been said about how long-running MCU characters are at risk in Avengers: Infinity War – and it looks like the recent second trailer for the event movie might have revealed who may be meeting their maker. We could be barking up the wrong tree with this one, but if a major character death is something you’d like to experience unspoiled, you might want to look away now.

For the rest of you, the finger is pointing at Idris Elba’s Heimdall as being one of those set to meet their fate in Infinity War. The character has featured in all three Thor movies so far and has been established as one of the wisest and most powerful Asgardians of the lot. So, his death would make a pretty big impact.

The reason we think this is a possibility comes from one specific shot in the trailer, which features Loki standing alongside the Black Order, Thanos’ elite squad of henchman/adoptive children that he’s trained as his warriors. In the background of the scene, you can glimpse a very familiar sword. Specifically, it’s the mighty blade that belongs to Heimdall.

So, why does this discarded sword mean that the character’s time is up? Well, we’re pretty sure that this shot takes place on the Asgardian refugee ship which Thanos’ vessel was seen to approach at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. It seems likely, then, that the Mad Titan has sent in the Black Order to retrieve the Space Stone, which Loki had stolen from Odin’s vaults.

Knowing Heimdall, he would have stood up to the invaders and it may just have cost him his life. If we’re on the right track here, this could also be a neat way of establishing the Black Order as a credible threat right off the bat and seriously raising the stakes.

Again, this is just a theory, but we’ll see if we’re right when Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters on April 27th.
