Ask anyone involved in Avengers: Infinity War to describe Marvel’s biggest blockbuster and you’ll likely be met with a barrage of superlatives – colossal, mind-blowing, staggering…you name it.
But Karen Gillan (Nebula) has gone one step further to say that Infinity War is more than just a film – it’s a cinematic event. Currently doing press for Jumanji, Gillan sat down with Digital Spy to discuss her foray into the jungle, and why she’s beginning to develop a taste for white-knuckle action roles.
As for her involvement in the MCU, specifically, Karen Gillan then previewed Avengers: Infinity War, a film she considers to be the “biggest movie in the world.” But such a massive crossover doesn’t come easy.
I think when you’re making the biggest movie in the world, people are excited to be there. But it’s a long shoot, so it’s tough on everyone. It’s been going for almost a year now. But they treat everybody really well, and the days aren’t too long. But I’m sure they are exhausted. But yeah, it’s going to be so good. They’ve been planting things from 10 years ago that are going to come, and they’re going to be relevant in these two movies.
Later in the interview, the Scottish actress addressed Nebula’s absence from the Infinity War teaser, which has blown past 100 million views in the space of two weeks. Two. Weeks.
They showed a really long teaser of all the stuff that we had been creating, and showed it to the whole cast and the whole crew, and it was just amazing for morale. I can honestly say that it’s going to be a cinematic event. Not just a film – a cinematic event. Anyone who’s a Marvel fan is going to… honestly, I have goosebumps even talking about it.
That cinematic event will begin with the release of Infinity War on May 4th, 2018, before Avengers 4 tends to unfinished business the following year. It’ll seemingly herald a big character development for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, too, who was conspicuously absent from Infinity War‘s initial teaser. Ditto for Nebula, though Karen Gillan believes there’s a good reason why her blue-skinned anti-hero was left on the sidelines.
