Vision in Age of Ultron

New Infinity War Video Shows How Paul Bettany Becomes The Vision

Paul Bettany's on-set transformation into Vision takes roughly one-to-two hours, and this Infinity War video details every meticulous step of that process.

Gone are the days when Paul Bettany’s MCU role was limited to just a rather very intelligent system (read: JARVIS).

Thanks to the Mind Stone and its unbridled power, JARVIS has evolved into the Vision, a radically advanced android capable of wielding Mjolnir and shooting concentrated laser beams from his forehead. And we’re merely scratching the surface.

For in Avengers: Infinity War, Vision’s abilities will reach dizzying new heights, which is just as well, given Thanos is beginning to loom large on the horizon. That’s all well and good, but for Paul Bettany, the back-to-back release of Infinity War and Avengers 4 led to long hours in the make-up chair, as Marvel’s prosthetics team transformed him from measly human into one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

It’s a process that takes one-to-two hours, give or take, as this newly-released video demonstrates every meticulous step of the process:

Impressive though that may be, because Vision is walking (levitating?) around with a great big yellow target on his head – quite literally – and given Thanos’ relentless pursuit of all six Infinity Stones, some Marvel fans are worried that Bettany’s Avenger is on borrowed time, and may well meet his maker in either Infinity War or the so-far untitled Avengers 4.

That being said, thanks to the actor’s bustling Instagram feed, we know that Paul Bettany will partake in Avengers: Infinity War and live to tell the tale, thereby ruling him off Joe and Anthony Russo’s potential kill list. The directing duo know which characters they’re allowed to bump off, which has, in turn, sparked heated debate online about who will be put out to pasture come 2018 (or 2019!).

And we’ll finally receive some definitive answers to those questions on May 4th, 2018. Beyond Infinity War, the conclusive Avengers 4 is expected to bring the curtain down on May 3rd, 2019.
