Yes, in Joe and Anthony Russo’s event movie to end all event movies, Drax the Destroyer, the former mercenary and current Guardian who’s still struggling to wrap his head around the nuances of the English language – and invisibility – finds himself in a tense stand-off at one point.

It takes place soon after Iron Man and Star-Lord cross paths for the very first time, and their combined egos are enough to dwarf all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Leave it to Dave Bautista’s Guardian, then, to cut through the tension like a hot knife through butter, giving us one of the funniest scenes in the entire movie – which you can now view in the video up above, as Marvel’s made it available online.

As for that improv we mentioned, as writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explained the other week, the script didn’t include Drax’s laugh out loud line – it only came into the film when Bautista himself added it.

The script only said, ‘Where is Gamora?’ ‘I’ll do you even better: Who is Gamora?’ And then one day Bautista just goes, ‘I’ll do you one better: Why is Gamora?’ It’s like, ‘OK, you’re very good at your job.’

Make no mistake, Avengers: Infinity War isn’t all doom and gloom, as there are a healthy handful of very humorous moments, too, and it’s a credit to Markus and McFeely that the MCU mega-movie never collapses under its own weight. Not even once. It’s not without its problems, of course, but as far as superhero team-up films go, Infinity War is certainly a cut above the rest.
