The Avengers Scribe Zak Penn Returning For Another Marvel Movie

Scribe Zak Penn's returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for another movie, but which one he's writing we don't yet know.

Aficionados of the MCU are verifiably familiar with the immeasurable contribution Zak Penn has made to their beloved universe. Bestowed with a writing credit on Joss Whedon’s The Avengers and several other, albeit not as successful, superhero films – X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and The Incredible Hulk – Penn is also credited with landing Jeremy Renner the role of Hawkeye.

However, the scribe’s talents aren’t just reserved for those who don a cape. Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One hits theatres later this month and Zak was one of the masterminds behind the lofty adaptation. Not intimidated by Spielberg’s grandiose vision and Ernest Cline’s seemingly unadaptable novel, he’s now continuing his pursuit of a long-gestating passion project: a Matrix film.

“I’ve been working on Matrix right now. Which is in…a phase right now. That’s a franchise I desperately want to see brought back.” said Penn.

With that project still brewing in development though, the scribe’s now returning to Marvel Studios and has begun working on another superhero screenplay. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Penn revealed as much, saying that he’s going to do a new film for Marvel, but stopped short of revealing which one.

“I think I’m gonna do one more Marvel, one more project in the Marvel Universe. I’m about to start doing, but…I have to check and see if I’m allowed to say what it is.”

Given his background, the comic book adapting veteran would seemingly have his pick of the litter when it comes to choosing his next project – making the guessing game regarding which one he may be attached to quite difficult. It isn’t clear whether Penn will be tackling the assignment for Marvel or Fox, either, both of which have ample openings in their future slates, but news of Zak Penn writing another film in the genre is sure to delight fans regardless.
