Proving once and for all that some people are never going to be happy no matter what they get given, the outpouring of joy greeting the revelation that Ben Affleck’s Batman will finally wear a blue suit in live-action in The Flash was swiftly offset by criticism of said costume.
Fans have been demanding the iconic aesthetic be brought to the big screen for years, so we shouldn’t really be all that surprised that a number of them instantly began tearing it to shreds from the second it was confirmed the dream was becoming a reality. In an unsavory twist to the usual trolling formula, critics of Affleck’s Dark Knight are comparing his harness-like duds to a Bat-Bra.
The Flash always had to win over the doubters given the fact it’s been in development for close to a decade, never mind the controversies swirling around star Ezra Miller, or even the confirmation it’s poised to wipe the slate of the SnyderVerse clean once and for all. Haters are always gonna hate, though, so director Andy Muschietti’s epic was always going to be placed in the firing line.
You want Ben Affleck’s Batman back in the DCU after he announced his retirement and then rescinded it for the Snyder Cut? Sure, here he is. The blue costume you’ve been wanting for so long? Yep, you can have that too. What about Michael Keaton returning for the first time in 30 years? Here is.
Nah, scratch that, we don’t like it anymore. Such is the way the superhero world works, and it’ll stay that way for as long as the world continues to turn.
