Not since Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance as the Joker has a cinematic trickster generated so much conversation, and it all stems from Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Stephen King’s flesh-munching abomination has been haunting theaters for several weeks now, pulling in a record amount of box office receipts in the process. It is currently at $417 million (worldwide) and counting, and all signs point to Andy Muschietti’s R-rated scarefest being remembered as one of 2017’s bona fide success stories.
But now that the terrifying clown is out in the open, spawning countless nightmares in the process, it’s time for all those mashup trailers to start rolling in. Just yesterday, we saw one that brought together Pennywise and the Joker in suitably epic fashion and now, it seems that the demonic entity has turned his attention towards another DC Comics character: Batman.
Yes, the Dark Knight and Pennywise go head to head in this new fan-made trailer, which you can catch up above. Comprised of clips from several films, including It, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, it’s a chilling and impressive piece of work from YouTube user Adeel of Steel, who’s been pumping out some great stuff lately. Of course, such a crossover would never happen in real life, but you can’t deny that it’d make for a pretty interesting movie.
Circling back to It though, and since the film’s launch on Friday, September 8th, it’s shattered one box office record after another, becoming the highest-grossing Stephen King adaptation on home turf – The Green Mile was the previous record-holder with $136 million – while last week’s Tuesday ($11.4 million) and Wednesday ($7.9 million) hauls are the best for any horror movie ever released in the month of September. Ditto for Thursday, September 14th, when Muschietti’s revival pulled in a record $7.2 million domestically. Not only that, but just this week, it also took down The Exorcist to earn the title of highest grossing horror pic.
Suffice it to say, it’s been an incredible first month for the movie and now that Pennywise has been banished for upwards of 27 years, the Losers Club will go their separate ways – at least, until the advent of It: Chapter 2 in 2019.
