Zack Snyder Officially Releases First Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer

After much anticipation, Zack Snyder has now officially unveiled the first trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in glorious HD.

While the original plan was to unleash the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer on IMAX screens on Monday before then releasing it online, a leaked bootleg copy of the teaser went viral late Thursday night, causing Warner Brothers and director Zack Snyder to shift gears. As such, the official teaser has now been released, in all of its HD glory.

As I stated in my post about the leaked footage, this teaser leans heavily on a dark tone, which I think is a very deliberate move from Snyder and his marketing team. Much of the film is going to deal with the fallout from Man of Steel, literally and figuratively, and the plot will further explore the idea of placing a being like Superman into the real world.

Accompanying that are themes of terror, confusion, outrage and panic at the fact that a super-powered alien now openly flies around the globe, seemingly “protecting us.” I suspect that as the marketing campaign goes on, we’ll start to see the story from the perspective of those who are on Supes’ side of the upcoming battle.

Not everyone believes in Superman, though, as evidenced by the trailer’s voice-over, which is peppered with bits from Holly Hunter (whose character has yet to be revealed) and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, who has the best line of the trailer, saying “Devils don’t come from Hell beneath us; no, they come from the sky!” Luthor will obviously be speaking out about the danger that Superman brings with him and will probably use the destruction that he and Zod caused in Metropolis as an example.

All in all, the trailer succeeds in teasing the film and the various themes that it will explore. It also sheds some light on Ben Affleck’s Batman, who appears to be the greatest page-to-screen adaptation of the Dark Knight we’ve seen yet.

We’ll have a more in-depth analysis on the footage here shortly, but until then, check out some screenshots from the trailer below and let us know how you feel about it in the comments section.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit theaters on March 25th, 2016.
