While Warner Bros. was never going to take the risk of putting out an R-rated cut of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in theatres, it appears as if the studio still plans to release one – on Blu-ray/DVD.
Likely spurred by the success of Deadpool, Warner Bros. is reportedly putting together an Ultimate Edition for the home entertainment release of Zack Snyder’s upcoming superhero flick, and it will feature an R-rated version of the film.
No word yet on what exactly this new restricted version will include, nor do we know what had to be cut to get the PG-13 in the first place, but it’s certainly exciting to think that we’re finally getting the R-rated Batman movie that we’ve always been asking for.
[zergpaid]Then again, this could just be a move to cater to fanboys and build some buzz before the film drops. For all we know, the R-rated cut may feature nothing more than a few extended scenes and an F-bomb or two. At this point, we really don’t know what to expect.
Still, the dark and gritty feel of DC’s cinematic universe certainly caters to an R-rating more than it does a PG-13, so hopefully the studio will take this opportunity to bring us an even darker and grittier version of Snyder’s hugely anticipated movie.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theatres on March 25th. A date hasn’t been set yet for the Blu-ray/DVD, but we’ll keep you posted once we hear more.
