Well, this is kind of surprising.
Kong: Skull Island is only a few weeks away now, with its March 10th release date quickly approaching, and although we’ve already seen a ton of promotional material for it, Warner Bros. has now dropped one final trailer for the blockbuster, which goes for broke as it shows us just what a spectacle the film is set to be. Granted, it is odd to get a new preview so close to the movie hitting theaters, but given the footage on display here, we’re certainly not complaining.
Set to be the next step forward in the studio’s budding MonsterVerse, Skull Island will find a “team of explorers and soldiers travel to an uncharted island in the Pacific, unaware that they are crossing into the domain of monsters, including the mythic Kong.” With a cast headlined by Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman, to name but a few, it’s got all the makings of a box office hit and we’re excited to lay eyes on it in just a few weeks’ time.
As for this new trailer, everything you’d expect to see is included. Gigantic monsters battling it out, impressive visual effects, lots of roaring and stomping around, a rocking soundtrack and tiny humans running for their lives as the beasts steal the show. In short, you should already know if Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ latest effort is going to be for you before you enter the theater.
Reviews haven’t surfaced just yet, so we don’t have too much of an indication as to if the studio’s got a hit on their hands here, but early buzz has been pretty strong so far and we’re certainly intrigued to see what this new take on the titular character will bring to the table. If nothing else, it should make for a good couple hours of mindless fun, and with so much trash filling up theaters lately, that’s all we can really ask for.
Kong: Skull Island will be with us on March 10th with a post-credits stinger to boot. More than likely, the monstrous reboot will lay the necessary groundwork for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is set to usher Gojira back onto the big, big screen on March 22nd, 2019. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also Godzilla Vs. Kong – no doubt the main event of the MonsterVerse – to look forward to in 2020.
