Ben Affleck’s Out As Batman As WB Eyes New Actor To Replace Him

Well, it looks like Ben Affleck is officially done playing Batman, as Variety reports that Warner Bros. is currently searching for an actor to replace him.

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but it looks like Ben Affleck’s time in the cape and cowl has officially come to an end.

Earlier today, Variety published a report about The Flash being delayed – for a change – as the film’s production has now been pushed to late 2019. But buried in the article was a particularly interesting tidbit about Big Ben, with the outlet noting that Warner Bros. won’t be moving forward with any further movies featuring the actor as their Batman and is now looking to recast.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of who they may have their eye on, but here’s what the report said:

“The studio is not moving forward with Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, respectively,” writes Variety. “It is expected to recast the Dark Knight with a different actor. “

As for who could replace Ben, well, take your pick. I mean, just about every popular leading man in Hollywood has been linked to the role in one way or another. In recent memory, various actors such as Kit Harington and Oscar Isaac were said to be considered as Affleck’s successor, but from what we understand, neither panned out. Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from pointing to Jon Hamm, who looks like Alex Ross’ Dark Knight brought to life.

Of course, it’s important to note that Warner Bros. has yet to confirm this story, so don’t take it as set in stone just yet. Then again, Variety’s pretty reliable and even though rumors earlier this month said Ben was talking with the studio about suiting up one final time, we’re inclined to believe that he’s done with the role. And frankly, that’s a damn shame.

Despite the films he starred in not being that great, I’ve always liked Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight, and it would’ve been nice to get a movie focused entirely on his take on the role rather than having to either share the limelight with Superman or the rest of the Justice League. It seems it just wasn’t mean to be, though, and when Matt Reeves’ The Batman rolls around, we’ll most likely be watching someone else bring to life one of DC’s most iconic heroes.
