Benicio Del Toro Joins Guardians Of The Galaxy

Benicio Del Toro has joined the Marvel family as he'll take on a starring role in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. There's no specifics yet on which character the actor will play but apparently it will be one which "is built to be part of future Marvel films," meaning we'll be seeing him pop up in multiple movies in the studio's ever expanding universe.

Benicio Del Toro has joined the Marvel family as he’ll take on a starring role in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s no specifics yet on which character the actor will play but apparently it will be one which “is built to be part of future Marvel films,” meaning we’ll be seeing him pop up in multiple movies in the studio’s ever expanding universe.

Del Toro joins a very, very interesting cast which seems to get stranger by the day. Already set to star are Chris Pratt, Glenn Close, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and Karen Gillan. It’s a varied mix of actors, not exactly a group of names that you’d expect to see together in a film. That being said, for all we know, this could work out very well. Marvel is usually pretty spot on with their casting so for now, I’m going to trust them.

As for Del Toro, like so many others in this cast, he’s an actor that I never thought I’d see in a Marvel movie but a strong talent nonetheless. He recently joined Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and now today, he has made another inspired career choice by stepping into the mighty Marvel universe.

Honestly, not being at all familiar with the source material, and not being sure what to make of this cast, I’m still undecided on what to make of Guardians of the Galaxy at this point. It’s certainly attracting a lot of attention and there’s a fair amount of buzz surrounding it but currently, I just can’t tell yet whether or not it’s going to be a hit.

That being said, Marvel usually doesn’t disappoint and they have definitely proven themselves in the past. So no matter how skeptical I am of this project, I’ll wait until we at least see a bit of footage until I make a judgement on whether or not I’m excited for Guardians of the Galaxy.
