Variety last night exclusively reported that Benjamin Walker will now play Abraham Lincoln in 20th Century Fox’s much anticipated 2012 release, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Over these past few months, many names were in the running and had screen-tested, including Adrien Brody, Josh Lucas, James D’Arcy, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. But Walker emerged as the front-runner, and the deal was finally agreed on Thursday.

Timur Bekmambetov will direct and co-produce this 3D horror period-adventure, along with Tim Burton and Jim Lemley, from the screenplay of writer Seth Grahame-Smith, whose original work inspired the film.

“The story reconstructs the hidden true life drama of one of the greatest US presidents while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War, and uncovering the role vampires really played in the birth, growth, and near-death of a nation.“

It sounds very twisted and a lot of fun, a bit like Cowboys and Aliens! Looking forward to it.
