Sex in cinema can be a very interesting thing. As much as we would all love to pretend that we are as liberal as can be, sex is still very much taboo, even though every single person pretty much does it. This means that people can be very reactionary when it comes to sex on film. Some people want to stand up and yell blasphemy at the screen and some people just want to lose themselves in it for a moment, amid the chaos of their own lives. And, of course, some people want to crawl off into a corner and grab the Kleenex.
The point is, the sex scene is one of the few kinds of scenes that has been constant in cinema over the years, yet still somehow gets a completely polarizing response. But whether or not you like it or think it has merit, it should be said that the sex scene has a place in cinema. That is what is great about taboos. They may not be taboos to everyone, but they never go away. The sex scene is not going anywhere and if anything, studios will just become more and more lenient over time. Also, with guys like Lars von Trier figuring out insane and interesting ways to make it seem like his big name actors are having actual intercourse on screen, do not expect the craze over sex scenes to ever die down.
That being said, I thought I would be foolish enough to try to assemble a list of the “best” sex scenes from the last six years. Why six years? Because sex and six sound alike. What, you don’t like it? Deal with it.
