Beyonce Will Direct And Star In A Movie About Herself

There's nothing quite like directing and starring in your own movie, especially if the subject matter also happens to fall around you. That's the kind of egocentric project none of us need, but Beyonce, who is set to direct and star in a documentary about herself, is going to go ahead with it anyway. And why not? It is about her. And at least it'll be her own fault if she looks bad, although since she's making it that probably won't happen. Maybe it'll be boring? Is Beyonce boring?

There’s nothing quite like directing and starring in your own movie, especially if the subject matter is also you. That’s the kind of egocentric project none of us need, but Beyonce – who is set to direct and star in a documentary about herself – is going to go ahead with it anyway, because why not? It is about her, after all. And at least it’ll be her own fault if she looks bad, although since she’s making it that probably won’t happen. Maybe it’ll be boring? Is Beyonce boring? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

The documentary, set to include both concert material and more personal stuff (not too personal, we hope), will air on HBO at some point in 2013.

“Everybody knows Beyonce‘s music, but few know Beyonce the person,” said Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming, in a statement that could not possibly contain more of the word Beyonce. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”

Beyonce herself had some nice things to say about HBO in return, saying:

“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity. Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”

What do you make of this, then? Is it okay for Beyonce to direct a documentary about herself, or should she give it to, like, Errol Morris or something? Let us know all your Beyonce-based thoughts about this Beyonce-based movie below. Beyonce.
