UPDATE: Margot Robbie has now confirmed that the pic will shoot in January.
The future of the DC Extended Universe is in flux right now. After the failure of Justice League, Warner Bros. slowed down a little and only have three movies coming out in the next two years – Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984. Beyond that, the studio has various projects rolling around but an official schedule has yet to be released. That being said, a new report might just reveal which pic is next to go before the cameras: Birds of Prey.
Discussing Film has revealed that WB’s eyeing up a January 2019 start date for production on the movie. What’s more, Omega Underground is reporting that some shooting locations have already been lined up. These include Los Angeles, California, and Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia. This all falls in line with some earlier info that leaked which pointed to Birds of Prey gearing up at some point in 2019.
Set to be directed by Cathy Yan with the script provided by Christina Hodson, the pic is based on the all-female super-team from the comics. The group usually consists of Batgirl, Huntress and Black Canary, all of whom are expected to make their debuts in the DCEU in the film. However, one of the leading ladies will also be Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, following on from her successful turn in Suicide Squad.
It’s not yet known who’ll star alongside her in Birds of Prey, but many actresses have been linked with Batgirl over the years – the latest to put their name forward was Jane Levy. It’s also thought that Lea Seydoux is being chased for the part of Dinah Lance AKA Black Canary. If production really is set to start at the beginning of next year though, then we’ll likely see some casting announcements come our way over the next few months, so be sure to stay tuned.
