Marvel’s King of Wakanda has just added another jewel to his growing collection. And it’s a big one.
Online ticketing service Fandango brings word that Black Panther is outpacing all other superhero movies in advance ticket sales – easily eclipsing Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which went on to enjoy a strong debut in the region of $166 million back in 2016. It’s also topped daily ticket sales on the site, despite the fact that Marvel’s solo movie – the last to arrive before Avengers: Infinity War – is still a full two weeks out from release.
Indeed, the news comes in the wake of Black Panther‘s world premiere, which drew overwhelmingly positive reactions from the four corners of the industry. The official review embargo is still in place – February 6th is the date for your diaries – but this groundswell of support has helped catapult T’Challa to superstardom.
As things stand, industry estimates project that Black Panther will open to around $120 million, though that figure could scale all the way to $150 million when all is said and done. That means Deadpool‘s February record ($152.1 million) is within reach, so it’ll be fascinating to see how T’Challa fares against the Merc With a Mouth.
And Erik Davis, Managing Editor of Fandango, couldn’t agree more, stating that the demand for Marvel’s Black Panther movie has been “electric.”
The buzz on ‘Black Panther’ is electric. Early screening audiences say it is one of Marvel’s best movies ever, and the positive word-of-mouth is helping drive the movie’s spectacular advance ticket sales.
It’s supposedly a “big, beautiful masterpiece” with a well-though-out villain good enough to give even Loki a run for his Asgardian jewels, and we’ll be able to see how the final product stacks up once Black Panther officially claws its way into theaters on February 16th.
