Five days ago, we brought you the news that Rotten Tomatoes was arming its cyber defenses in response to a spiteful Internet hate group, one formed under the sole belief that Black Panther – just like Star Wars: The Last Jedi before it – should be sabotaged for Disney’s alleged ‘meddling’ in the DCEU and its own promotional campaign for Justice League.
It’s ridiculous, really, and the Facebook group has been roundly condemned by all four corners of the industry. Their mission, if that’s what you want to call it, involves intentionally downvoting Black Panther so that its audience score takes a beating.
And though Rotten Tomatoes has yet to reveal the film’s performance amongst fans – remember, Ryan Coogler’s adorned spinoff isn’t expected to grace North America until February 16th – the Internet’s movie aggregator has gone ahead and posted the Black Panther Tomatometer score. And it’s good news for the folks at Marvel Studios.
Of the 65 reviews counted, every outlet has rated Black Panther as “fresh,” thereby allowing the MCU film to retain a perfect 100 percent score…so far. As time wears on, and more and more reviews filter in, that score will inevitably begin to drop. But make no mistake, in light of yesterday’s review embargo, Black Panther has a very good chance of becoming one of, if not the highest-rated entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here’s the critical consensus, courtesy of RT:
Black Panther elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights while telling one of the MCU’s most absorbing stories — and introducing some of its most fully realized characters.
We’ll be bringing you all the latest on Black Panther as the film begins its theatrical run, and with news that Marvel’s all-star epic features two post-credits scenes and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from an Avenger, it’ll likely be discussed for months – nay, years – to come.
