Marvel Confirms Plans For Black Panther 2, Already Has Solid Ideas

According to Kevin Feige, Marvel's creative team has already drafted up ideas and a pretty solid direction for the Black Panther sequel.

Avengers: Infinity War won’t be the only Marvel movie to welcome viewers back to Wakanda; according to Kevin Feige, pre-production on Black Panther 2 is already underway.

As part of Entertainment Weekly’s exhaustive coverage of Infinity War and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, in general, Feige teased life after Thanos, given Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan has been earmarked as the primary antagonist for both Avengers 3 and 4.

But the MCU will continue beyond 2019 – even if the X-Men and their mutant allies (read: Deadpool, Fantastic Four) aren’t expected to show up until further down the road. And if Feige’s estimates are on point, and a Black Panther sequel already exists in some shape or form, then we could see T’Challa’s second solo adventure bound onto the big screen as part of Phase 4.

Here’s what the studio’s president told EW:

Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.

And considering Black Panther is still playing in theaters all across the globe – China included – it shouldn’t be all that surprising that the sequel is little more than a collection of loose ideas fixed to a whiteboard somewhere in Marvel HQ. For now, at least…

In related news, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther movie continues to be a box office titan, and is expected to break the $1 billion milestone before the weekend is out. So if there’s one MCU hero who deserves a sequel, it’s T’Challa.
