Blood-caked images from ‘Cinderella’s Curse’ offer an unfortunate reminder the worst trend in cinema isn’t going anywhere

Just make it stop already.

Cinema goes through its phases of piling on the hottest trend, but one of the worst to come along in a long time is without a doubt the desire to turn widely-beloved children’s tales into blood-soaked slashers, with Cinderella’s Curse just one of many.

As you can infer from the title, the classic fairy tale will be refitted as a nightmarish terror in which Kelly Rian Sanson’s title character does not get to go to the ball without facing any obstacles. If you can believe it, it’s not even the only horror-centric spin on the story in the works, with Cinderella’s Revenge also coming soon.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has a lot to answer for, and the fact it was deemed as one of the worst films the world has ever seen did nothing to stop it from turning a profit and leading to a slew of imitators that are no doubt going to keep on seeping out of the woodwork for some time to come.

Whether it’s Grinch-inspired The Mean One, Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre, or Bambi: The Reckoning, the joke has already worn thin and the craze is barely in its infancy. Of course, for all we know Cinderella’s Curse could turn out to be a bastion of cinematic excellence, but the evidence to the contrary is stacked much higher.

Does anyone need to see Cinderella bludgeoning and impaling people with a glass slipper? Maybe, and if they do, then they’re spoiled for choice with not just one, but two options to choose from.
