In an interview with CinemaBlend last September, Miramax CEO and Halloween producer Bill Block teased the possibility of further reboots for the Scream and Hellraiser franchises, explaining that both properties will be “part of the new program.”
In the months since, little has been heard on the matter, but when CinemaBlend had a chance to speak to Blumhouse chief Jason Blum, Block’s fellow Halloween producer was similarly on board with the idea of taking on the two franchises, explaining:
“Yes, we definitely have [discussed it]. We’re looking – there’s nothing happening with either one of those things – but we’re definitely looking at it, and it’s definitely something I’d be open to.”
This isn’t the first time that Blum has touched on the possibility of working on a Scream movie, telling Forbes in September that he’d like to tackle the series, but there are still “business obstacles to cross.” To put things into perspective, the producer also mentioned that the Halloween reboot “was in the works with us for four or five years before it evolved.”
From the sound of things, we probably shouldn’t expect a new Hellraiser or Scream to go into production in the immediate future, but with the third season of the Scream TV series still in limbo well after its previously scheduled March 2018 premiere date, fans may take comfort in knowing that the property could still have a future on the big screen.
As for Hellraiser, to a certain extent, the series already had its comeback with 2018’s direct-to-video Hellraiser: Judgment, but it’s certainly been a while since the property last graced the big screen, and many would likely argue that the franchise is overdue for a fresh start. In any case, as we wait to learn more about Blumhouse’s future reboot ambitions, the studio just recently dropped the latest installment in a relatively new horror series, with Happy Death Day 2U now showing in cinemas.
