The only thing more extraordinary than their music is his story. And his story will be told.
Set against the iconic ‘stomp-stomp-clap’ of “We Will Rock You,” with sprinklings of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Another One Bites the Dust,” this teaser is all about shedding light on Queen’s formative years, and the origins of those evergreen hits. Heckled by producers and particularly stubborn radio hosts, the British pop band was left facing two options: “get experimental,” or risk fading into obscurity. History tells us they chose option A.
At the center of this inspired biopic, though, is Rami Malek as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, whose private life is said to inform the film’s structure. There’s also a glimpse at his same-sex relationships, which were conspicuously absent from the original teaser back in May.
If you’ve been keeping up, you’ll know that Bohemian Rhapsody has emerged from some trouble of its own, after production was brought to a screeching halt back in December when it was alleged that erstwhile director Bryan Singer had become unstable, lashing out at the cast and crew. Eddie the Eagle helmer Dexter Fletcher was quickly appointed in his place, and helped usher Fox’s musical biopic over the finish line. And at least based on today’s second trailer, he’s done so with aplomb.
Bohemian Rhapsody lights up U.S. theaters on November 2nd – one week after its debut in the United Kingdom. Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech and Mike Myers round out the incredible ensemble cast.
