At $304M and counting, Deadpool 2‘s domestic gross has propelled the David Leitch-directed sequel straight into the history books.
Not only did the film smash through all sorts of R-rated records upon release, but the latest figures reveal that Deadpool 2 is officially the third Marvel-based movie to gross higher than $300M at the domestic box office in 2018 – a feat also achieved by MCU heavyweights Avengers: Infinity War ($667M) and Black Panther ($699M).
That North American haul is also higher than any installment in Fox’s X-Men franchise, given X-Men: The Last Stand ($234M), X-Men: Days of Future Past ($233M) and James Mangold’s Logan ($226M) all tapped out below the $250M marker – only Tim Miller’s first Deadpool movie ($363M) has grossed higher at the domestic B.O.
Another piece of box office trivia? According to the folks at Box Office Mojo, Deadpool 2‘s domestic tally is higher than that of any live-action sequel, including Meet the Fockers ($279M) and The Hangover Part II ($254M). So, suffice it to say, it’s been a pretty successful turnout for Fox and David Leitch’s sequel, even if it ultimately falls just short of reaching an $800M gross worldwide when all is said and done.
As things stand, Deadpool 2‘s lifetime tally is North of $707M, which tells us that Fox’s raunchy follow-up will likely land in and around the same ballpark as its predecessor, which scooped up a record $783M back in 2016. There’s never been a better time to be a fan of the Merc With a Mouth, and with Drew Goddard’s X-Force ensemble movie already making headway, it won’t be too long before he’s back on our screens, tiny baby legs and all…
