Deadline is reporting that Megan Ellison and her production company Annapurna Pictures are in talks to fund the Black list script American Bullshit, which has David O. Russell attached to direct.

The film, which Ben Affleck considered directing after The Town, is about “the 70s FBI sting operation Abscam that took down a bunch of U.S. congressmen” and will see Russell reunite with his Fighter star Christian Bale. Furthermore, the director may also reunite with his Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper, who is currently in talks to join the film.

This news comes just after an announcement the other day that O. Russell may next direct a biopic about Buddy Cianci Jr. the “controversial mayor of Providence, Rhode Island who was convicted of racketeering in 2002.”

O. Russell is yet to decide which film will be his next, weighing up American Bullshit with the Buddy Cianic Jr. biopic, as well several other projects including The Mission, a Warner Bros. Colombian hostage rescue film, which has Brad Pitt lined up.

However, if the deal goes through for American Bullshit, a January 2013 start date is being eyed, which could put the film in prime position for an Oscar run at the end of 2013.

We will bring you more news on the project as it arises but in the meantime, tell us, which film would you like to see David O. Russell direct next?
