The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1 held on to first place this week at $16.9 million, making this the first time a Twilight movie has held the number 1 spot for three weeks. Moviegoers, you should be ashamed.

This was quite a slow weekend for ticket sales, which may be attributed to last weekend’s shopping frenzy, with Disney’s The Muppets only collecting $11.2 million, a 62 percent drop that’s quite surprising. With such good reviews, let’s hope The Muppets doesn’t flop, even just for Jason Segel‘s sake.

Other family-friendly films rounded out the top five – Hugo with $7.6 million, Arthur Christmas with $7.4 million and Happy Feet Two with $6 million.

George Clooney‘s latest, The Descendants, continued to do well in limited release, scoring $5.2 million. The film will be expanded to 850 theaters this Friday, so keep an eye out for it. The Artist and Shame also made huge noise – with $206,000 from six locations and $361,000 at 10 locations, respectively.

What do you think of this week’s slow box office? Are you happy this is the only record Breaking Dawn seems to be breaking? Let us know in the comments.
